RED is a European project funded by the Erasmus+ programme that began in September 2017. Its aim is to strengthen and boost the digital, literacy and numeracy skills of adults with low literacy by building a platform with a range of resources.

A needs analysis in the partner countries found that one in five people aged 16 to 65 had poor reading skills, and a modern, innovative platform was built in response.

RED platform

The platform has two main outputs:

  • Our own and external resources: resources in different categories, chosen according to each country's own needs, that help with everyday administrative tasks now done online, such as obtaining a digital certificate or applying for an employment history report or minimum income support. 
  • Directory: a directory of useful contacts and information about social and public organisations, and the places people may need to go, bringing everything together in one accessible place.

Results

  • Needs analysis: initial research into the target group's needs in each partner country, so that the platform responds directly to them.
  • Competence test: an online tool that lets organisations quickly identify people who may have low digital, numeracy or literacy skills. The tests link straight to the platform's resources.
  • RED directory: a browser that classifies by category the social institutions that can offer help or information to the target group.
  • RED platform: a tool with our own and external resources to make everyday online administrative tasks easier. They were built with Xerte, which covers all the target group's needs across digital, literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Sustainability study: a study of the impact and sustainability of the project's outputs once it ends.
