Science4Fun, funded by the Erasmus+ programme, began in September 2018 with the aim of encouraging the study of science in schools, particularly among girls and young women. Despite the growing presence of women in higher education, few women take degrees such as biology, chemistry or physics.

The project develops resources to show pupils, and girls above all, that science is not boring and that there are great women working in these fields. Its outputs include an online platform with tests for pupils and feedback on their progress across the different stages of education, plus ready-to-use resources: videos, activities, games, diagrams, workshops and more.

S4F

The goal is to change how science is taught: to make children more aware of what they know about science, to steer the subject towards curiosity and discovery, and to put an end to the preconception that science and technology are male fields.

Results

  • Science4Fun Big Data: a model for collecting and analysing data across the STEAM-related areas of education, with questionnaires to assess how science teaching is developing and a report on their results.
  • S4F environment: a technical environment for pupils to take part online, with the statistics and administration system and a plugin to run the questionnaires within it.
  • Science resources: resources of our own for each STEAM-related subject area and school level, plus external resources available online that meet the project's aims.
  • S4F training: support and training programmes for teachers on using the Science4Fun platform and environment.
  • Testing S4F: pilot courses to test the virtual learning environment developed by the project.
  • Handbook and guide: a theoretical handbook and a practical guide to using the Science4Fun resources and environment.
